April 2010 — "We have very missed feelings about this particular hotel. Since Econo Lodge has become part of the Choice Hotels we would rate them as a three star accommodation, from our previous experiences. All the buildings seem to be newly renovated, including new furnishings. We had confirmed our late arrival and our room specifications, as we would not be checking in before 10pm. We were very tired upon arrival, driving over 10 hours; we did not expect to be told there were no king size beds, and they only had double beds available. Far to tired to argue, we took the room, at the higher rate. We were able to park right in front of our room, which was a plus, but once inside, we realized the room was being prepped for new paint. It's appearance was disgusting. I complained to the deaf ears of the desk clerk. She had no desire to offer us any assistance, or reduce the rate for the inconvenience. The room was large enough, clean and well equipped, table and chairs, 25" TV, wi fi, microwave and fridge, etc.. We were close to the highway but we slept well. I'm not sure if that was because the room was quiet or we were just too tired. The bed was comfortable and pillows quite acceptable. The free breakfast was good. Included was frozen waffles for toasting, bread, muffins, juice, coffee, cereals, and oatmeal. The only thing noticeably missing was any type of fruit or yogurt. Adequate for a free continental breakfast. A standard at the Choice Hotel group. Always available for free is the latest USA Today. Van Horn is a very small town, about 5 blocks long, 120 miles southeast of El Paso Texas on highway 10. I didn't notice many eateries as we left town, but there were many hotel/motels. If we traveled this route in the future, I believe I would plan to drive the extra distance to El Paso."
