April 2007 — "Please don't be fooled by the ratings I have to give the condition of the motel. Yes, it's true, the bathroom tile is cracked, the rug is frayed, the furniture is mismatched, the grounds are kind of junky, but I would stay there again in a New York minute! Why? The family that owns it treated us like visiting cousins in their home.
They own another motel up the way that's all newly redone if you need perfection. We're smokers though, and that motel is all no smoking so down the road we went to the Deluxe Inn. Truthfully, we would have passed on by if it wasn't getting dark and we weren't so tired.
The room, even though it was a bit run down was very clean and comfortable. We found it a bit charming and there are lilac bushes up and down the drive. It's very close to the train tracks which might be off putting to some but it was great entertainment for the kids and not unsafe at all as it was on the other side of fences. After driving along and seeing numerous freight trains all day it was fun to see them up close like that and for the kids to have some fun but be right by our door.
When we got in we called the desk looking for the number of a restaurant down the road and were told hold on the owner would call right back. When he called back he had the restaurant on the phone for us! No charge for the call either.
When I stopped in for coffee in the lobby the next morning I had a nice conversation with the owners, the wife was there. She's the one who was at the newer motel the night before and directed us to the Deluxe Inn. They have a cute little dog who was lying on the mat in the sun. When we left, I sent my oldest out to return the key cards but before he could even get out of the car, the owner was up from his desk and coming out to us to make sure we knew the way and to wish us a safe trip. They are a truly lovely family. If I ever pass that way again, that's where I'm staying."
