September 2007 — "I’m usually looking for the cheapest accommodation in town, in Calgary this was a bit of a challenge. There really is not too much choice at the cheaper end of the scale, in fact it was almost impossible to find a double room for under $100. But the Hostelling International City Centre hostel is a little gem if you want to be within walking distance of the downtown. The room was small, it just fit a double and single bed in it, but it had a TV and DVD player as well as an en suite toilet and shower. Internet access was available in our room (the lower priced motels in motel village either didn’t have access or could only provide it in their lobby). They provided parking for us too, a slightly weird system where you put a notice in your car, but free and close to downtown so a bonus. The hostel staff were very friendly and there was tons of information about Calgary in the lounge/lobby area, a communal kitchen and lounge area completed the facilities I used. The only real negative was the run down sketchy location. Possibly not a place to take kids as there were trash cans for used needles on the lamp posts nearby. "

This hostel is located in the heart of downtown Calgary, close to shopping, dining, entertainment and cultural districts. Guests appreciate the wide range of on-site amenities including free wireless Internet access, complimentary morning coffee and tea, free local phone calls and free faxing, scanning and photocopying. All dorm and private rooms have new beds and mattresses and dorm rooms have a maximum of six beds. All dorm rooms have individual bed lights and lockers to safely store belongings. Private rooms have one double bed and one to three single beds. All dorm and private rooms have secure key-card access.
