August 2010 — "However, I am not sure a hotel immediately adjacent to a major freeway, with its own gas station and convenience (7-Eleven style) store falls into the "boutique hotel" its is advertised as. This place is a bit more like a Pea Soup Anderson's, than a quiet upscale hotel. The breakfast buffet features cafeteria quality french toast/sausages/scrambled eggs, with creamer packets for sub-standard coffee. Rooms on the east side of the hotel face the I-5 freeway; be sure to ask for a room on the west side...but don't get your hopes up. Despite it's proximity to Carlsbad State Beach, there are no lovely coastal views. Rooms on the west face either a parking lot or an office park. That said, the rooms themselves are unexpectedly elegant with european style down duvets, down pillows, and all marble bathrooms. Thick towels await in abundance, and the sitting rooms are comfortable enough to consider inviting your friends in for a glass of wine before dinner. One final word of caution: the hotel allows pets at $75 fee, and has a nice grassy exercise area with doggie bags, but provides no bowls, treats, or beds. The underlying message is that you can bring your pet if you want, but they'd really rather you didn't."

April 2007 — "We read a lot of good reviews on-line, and everything about the hotel lived up to them. The staff is friendly and eager to please. The room was CLEAN and comfy. We loved the Aveda products. Some minor negatives to be aware of: it's right next to the freeway. There really isn't any noise in the room, but the view is not stunning. Also, we have a baby, so we were put in the kid wing where there was some bleed through from the adjacent rooms. Neither of these things would keep us from going back again. Overall our experience was top notch!"
