January 2007 — "The place to remind your days at University student halls... Remember the porter making sure everyone follows the rules? The only difference is that people come here for a relaxing break. People running the Nook believed it was a great idea to use the harmonic Hoover to clean the place at 10:00am Saturday morning…. No need to mention that if you don't leave your room before 10am it doesn't gets cleaned. breakfast is served within about a 30mins window space, so, you can choose at your leisure at what time to have it... On Sunday, after being feeling unwell on Saturday evening, we did the terrible mistake of oversleeping for 30 minutes past the easy going 10am check out time... I believe that our door was knocked and shouted about 6 times from 10:30 to 11:00am that we left the room. As a special bonus the sweet chubby lady running the hotel though it was a great idea to give a kind shoulder push to my girlfriend to direct her towards the door exit... charming experience! Moreover, this is probably one of the very few hotels without a decent view of St Ives. Avoid the place if you can... "

Management Response:
"We regularly review on-line travel sites because we value the feedback of guests. Some of the points made in previous reviews have helped confirm the changes we thought we needed to implement. Some points have been factually incorrect but we have let them go as it seems petty to respond to all negative points. However, we cannot let the comments of Gerry pass without response. On the first morning, after a late night Gerry and his partner decided to stay in bed until lunchtime – which is fine by us. However, the guesthouse still has to function, guests leave, rooms are cleaned, guests arrive – noise is inevitable. The guests then requested a doctor for a minor problem and we contacted the relevant out of hours emergency service and helped them to get an appointment. Hardly an example of poor service, this has obviously been overlooked. The fact that they then thought it funny to turn up late for the Doctor was indicative of what was to follow. On Sunday, the guests came down to breakfast within the allotted period (which covers about 1.5 hours from start to finish) ate a full breakfast and then went back to bed at 9.45am – they clearly did not over sleep as incorrectly claimed. Check out is 10.00am - a fairly standard time in St Ives, this allows us to clean and refresh rooms for subsequent guests. We try to make our rooms available for guests as early as possible so that they can maximise their stay especially if they have travelled long distances. At 10.30am we reminded them of the check out time and were told that they were just leaving. At 10.50am we again asked them when they intended to leave only to receive abuse from the lady guest. At 11.00 am we asked them to leave. The lady guest then thought it funny to abuse one of my employees and laugh in her face before pushing her out of her way – certainly not the same story as they have portrayed. Gerry then complained that he never got up at this time at home and it was unreasonable to ask anyone to get up before 11.00 am on a Sunday. Fellow hoteliers – avoid this guest if you can - in five years of operating in this business these were the worst guests we have ever had the misfortune to meet. "
