"Warm Retreat in the midst of Trials"

January 2012 — "Needed by an exhausted, recently bereaved older couple, one of whom had a game knee and the other suffering from emphysema + a severe cold: A clean,accessible room with easy access to food, if not to a restaurant, a room in which to relax and become renewed for the rest of the journey home. Obtained: just such a clean, spacious room, with king-sized bed. No restaurant but food could be ordered in from several area restaurants at a reasonable price and coffee and tea were always available in the "breakfast room". The maintenance manager, was particularly helpful with information about availability of Vital Aire machine when we had to stay over another day and night, due to road conditions and weather. He also began to physically clear the ice off the windshield to help me when my husband was unable to do so. Other members of staff arranged for us to continue to stay in the same accessible room despite their eventually having a full hotel for a hockey tournament. (We were not, as I'd feared, bothered by the children's noise; it was very quiet most of the time.) Another got the heavy air machine from the room to the lobby for me after our stay. Everyone, including the person who came to clean our room with us still in it, was very helpful and suggesting ways to make things better for us. Lobby on-line access made it easy for me to reply to the most essential of two weeks' backlog of emails. I would recommend antibacterial soap in that area with so many different users. I also came down with the severe cold as we headed home and hope I didn't unintentionally pass it on to any other users. Would we stay there again when travelling through? Definitely, and, with better health and weather, eat at least one main meal at the nearby restaurant."
