November 2009 — "The Fairmont Empress Hotel is the oldest and likely most impressive hotel in Victoria. The original hotel is now almost 100 years old, with a major renovation done about 50 years ago. The construction and finishing of both the original hotel and renovation is top-notch and it really is a walk back in time to go through the hotel. We were here for a fundraiser and decided to stay the night. We were very happy with the room, which was clean and very nice. It is also interesting to stay in a room and hotel with so much history, thinking of who has been through these rooms over the past 100 years. I also like that the rooms have been updated but have still kept the old-world feel. On this visit we did not eat at the hotel, but we have before and the food is outstanding. The Bengal room also has a great drink list and is a must if you are staying at the hotel."

October 2009 — "My husband and I were invited to an event that took place across the street from the Fairmont Empress. The deal was that if we attended the event, that we were given a one room suite at the Empress for $99.00 (Regularly $249.00).
The room was beautiful, I loved everything about it. The room was clean and fresh, the bedding was new, and the decor was 'old fashioned' but new and clean. Somehow they did a great job maintaining the 'old, historic' feeling of the Empress, Like it was 100 years ago, yet they have renovated it to have modern, comfortable quaint furniture. The room was small, just enough room for 2 people, but if I could afford it, I would stay in a room just like that one as much as I could. It was like a vacation away, in our own city.
The front desk staff were very helpful and prompt as well. Also the door men were very courteous. I can't wait to stay again.

February 2008 — "The Empress hotel is undoubtedly the grand dame of Victoria's inner Harbour and we decided to take advantage of a special rate of $100 per night and stay there on our recent visit. The moment you arrive at the front desk, you realize you are in a prestigious establishment as you are greeted with air of grace. We also realized that the concierge figure out pretty quickly if you are from old money or are staying there on a deal. We walked along the maze of corridors to our room and loved the quirkiness of the shape of our room complete with the small window in the corner which did let in just enough light. Our room was clean and cleaned every day. We checked out the hotel gym which had new high-end workout machines plus a great pool and hot tub. We enjoyed our stay and would undoubtedly stay again but that would all depend on their next great special."
