July 2008 — "The Cliff House makes a convenient stop when visiting the Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve. Check out the Reserve, you won’t be disappointed. Even if you are not particularly interested in birds, it is an experience you will never forget. The Cliff House is about 15 or 20 minutes away on an acreage boasting a magnificent cliff that drops to a frothing gorge below. The rooms have a view of the sea, but to see the gorge you must walk out back a few metres and gaze down to the rocks below. Chris, the owner works at the reserve and truly loves the Gannets. He enjoys his job which is studying the birds and working with the reserve’s visitors. The B and B was nicely appointed with fluffy towels, a comfortable bed and a full private bath. Breakfast was the typical eggs, toast and juice but very tasty. There are only two places to eat in the general area, the Gannet’s Nest, and the Atlantica Inn. You can check out the review I wrote about the Gannet’s Nest on this site. The whole experience in this area was great. If you have the time, or even if you don’t check out Cape St. Mary’s (free) and enjoy the Ciff House B and B. ($90)"

July 2008 — "This B&B bragged of its breathtaking view of the ocean from every room, and its convenient location close to the reserve. We stayed in the Sunrise room with a queen size bed, huge plasma TV with satellite channels, and private full bath in the room, for $90 (including HST). There was a modern sense to the room, with mocha coloured walls, tiled or laminate floors, brushed pewter accessories and bright white towels, all in stark contrast to many of the other B&B’s we had stayed at on our trip that sported more of a folksy, quilty, down homey feel. The common area was quite lovely, with huge floor to ceiling windows overlooking the water. The colour choices in this home were quite striking – bright, buttercup yellow and poppy red (at least the parts we could see). It made a great deal of sense when we found out the number of days per year their house is enveloped in thick fog – they needed some brightness and light in their home to counteract the dense light outside. We were lucky the fog lifted a tiny bit while we ate breakfast (they offered full breakfasts with the price) so we were able to see a hint of their view of the ocean and cliffs beyond. The owner, an interpreter and researcher at the reserve, told us about the Gannets, their habits, and what to expect when we went out to the lighthouse. He assured many many times we would see birds even though it was foggy (and he was right!). I would recommend this B&B as a great stopover if you are visiting the Cape St. Mary’s reserve. "
