September 2011 — "A few minutes east of Willow Park, a suburb of Edmonton, you will find the Green Basset B and B. ($100 per night) To clarify, you must supply and cook your own breakfast, but all necessary equipment is available. What makes The Green Basset so interesting is that it is a passive solar house. I believe it is about 5000 square feet of house! They only rent out to one client at a time and so you will have your choice of the bedrooms and as the owners sleep in a separate building when there is a guest, you will be free to roam the entire house. Of course there are lots of windows to view the beautiful countryside and if you are lucky, you may even get to meat the Basset pups. There is a selection of wines available for $20 a bottle too. You can sit on their beautiful deck and sip. One word of caution though. As part of the design of the house, heat is captured and released to heat and cool the house, and snaps, crackles and pops are par for the course. Light sleepers beware. I had trouble sleeping but it was worth it anyway! "

"Fun Place to Stay Just Outside of Sherwood Park"

September 2011 — "I was intrigued by this little Inn because it is a passive solar home just on the outskirts of Sherwood Park and East Edmonton, only 10 minutes from major restaurants and the Festival Place theatre. The hosts were incredibly friendly and accommodating and we appreciated that they only take one set of guests in at a time, giving us the run of the house, including the kitchen and the multiple solariums. One full side of this house is walled with windows, and the home is set up to circulate the heat acquired during the day. The home was very clean and the bonus were Winston (the female!) and Venkman, and their pile of Bassett Hound puppies to play with. We paid $100/night for this room, and we spent a lovely evening gazing at the stars and rotating through the various solariums. There is a jacuzzi, a huge TV, a very comfy bed, wireless internet provided, and 3 acres to roam around on. Check it out - this is definitely worth a stop! "

The Green Basset Bed & Breakfast is a non-traditional B & B located on three acres of partially forested land with a large house, bonfire pit and trampoline. The house is custom-built and passive solar with 3 levels of greenhouse that are used to heat and cool the rest of the house, decreasing the need for natural gas. Three bedrooms are available on the second level that are rented to one group at a time. The guests have complete privacy on the top two levels of the house which sleeps up to seven people. There is a private bathroom with a Jacuzzi, numerous seating areas in the greenhouse and a gym area on the third level. The main level which has a common TV, a fireplace, a dining area and more greenhouse. There is also a ping-pong table and a pool table.
