June 2007 — "We had stayed here before, but it must have been in a newer wing of this large hotel. This time, our assigned room was a study in late '70's design. The wall mounted hair dryer resembled a small clogged vacuum cleaner, but I was loaned a portable unit which was not much more powerful than the wall mounted one. The toilet worked weakly, the upholstered barrel chairs were more decorative than comfortable, the pillows were small and lumpy ( and only two were provided). No soap dish or flat surface in the tub/shower, so soap chasing became our morning calisthenics. On the positive side, the room was spotless and the small refrigerator was handy. The breakfast room is enclosed by windows with a view of the lovely grounds. The server and cook were very personable and efficient and best of all -- the breakfast menu offered good eating at a very reasonable price!! This hotel is undergoing a major renovation, which caused some parking/access problems, as our room was right next to the crane and construction scaffolding. We had not been informed of the construction when we booked or we would have requested a room in the newer wing. This hotel is notable for its beautiful grounds, water access and convenient location to downtown and tourist attractions. Be sure to ask for a newer room, or wait for the new tower to be completed before you plan your stay!"
