October 2009 — "If you are interested in taking in the night life of St. Denis, St. Catherine's, or the old port, Hotel St. Denis is perfectly located. Several times during the afternoon and evening of exploration and partying, we were able to pop back to the quiet space of the hotel for a little r and r and a glass of red wine. (No driving or taxis necessary) The hotel was built back in the 1920's, and has recently received some renovations. (The most obvious being the removal of the old carpet and the addition of new hardwood style laminant. However, if little imperfections in workmanship bother you, they are evident. (For example, the grouting in the bathroom is pretty shabby.) A variety of rooms are available, and at one time or another, I have stayed in all their options. This particular time, the only room available was their most expensive. For about $160 including taxes, we had the whirlpool suite. I think at this time, regular rooms are about $110 or $120 bucks. The security of this hotel is somewhat questionable. Although in theory, anyone entering has to walk past the reception desk to the elevator. I did notice though that you could bypass the desk by leaving the attached restaurant by the back exit. At times too, the person manning the desk would change, but still greet us as we walked past. Even though the elevators did not require a card, and the potential is there for someone to access the floors above, in all my years of visiting this hotel, it has never been an issue for me. "
