October 2010 — "The Super 8 in Kelso, Washington spoiled us for the rest of our road trip. Every motel we went to after got compared to it (room charge, guest room, breakfast) and they never matched up. I’m not sure if all Washington state Super 8 motels are like this one or if it is just the efforts this owner makes for their guests. We decided at the last minute that we wanted to visit Mount St. Helens and with few options at Castle Rock, WA we drove on to Kelso and took a chance with the Super 8. The room was a decent, clean, regular motel room as hoped. It did have a fridge which came in handy for leftover pie slices from Shari’s restaurant a quick walk next door. The room had free WIFI which worked great for our trip planning research and most importantly it had a good mattress. We slept really well. However, it was the free breakfast that put this motel above all others. Make yourself waffles, bagels, toast, mini-donuts, banana bread, muffins, english muffins, cereal, fresh fruit – watermelon, grapes, bananas, apples, cereal, hard boiled eggs, juice - grapefruit, apple, orange, tea, coffee. Let’s just say we had a good start to the day and didn’t eat lunch until quite late that afternoon. If only all Super 8 motels met the standard set by the one in Kelso, WA."
