September 2007 — "The Inn at Avila Beach is right across the street from the ocean, so it truly is "on the beach." That is about all it had going for it, though. It was very expensive and I found it to be so run down as to give me bad dreams. The steps up to the second floor are crumbling concrete- yes, crumbling! and tilted, a definite safety hazard. The wallpaper is peeling in the bathrooms and the bed was very lumpy. Parking is "on a first-come, first-serve basis" and is under the hotel, so the gas fumes rise up to greet you. We booked a room with 2 queen beds for ourselves and teenaged son, and arrived to find out the second queen bed was a futon that we would have to make up ourselves. I do not recommend this hotel and we will not stay there again. "
