July 2011 — "The Comfort Inn & Suites in Ventura is in a good location, close to the interstate and walking distance to Ventura Beach. The lobby of the hotel is nice and the front desk staff were efficient and helpful when we asked for directions, so we definitely got a great first impression from the place. Unfortunately the room we were given was rather plain and not very modern, so it didn't really match the lobby. The first thing we noticed when we walked into our room was that the floors were wet (wet enough to squish as we walked on the floor!). Apparently all of the carpets had been cleaned (but never dried) earlier that day. When we complained to the front desk, they only offered us towels to put on the floor (which was not helpful at all) and told us that all of the rooms in the hotel were like that so we could not switch to a room where we didn't have to wear shoes just to walk to the bathroom. This was a pretty annoying inconvenience. Then we also noticed that maintenance workers were doing work just outside our window so we had to keep the curtains shut, even when the sun was already up in the morning. We were displeased with how early they started making noise outside our window, as well as the lack of privacy. For a hotel so close to a beautiful beach, the price was not that bad for the weeknight that we were there ($85 for a double room). It was also interesting that the continental breakfast is provided by the Denny’s across the street instead of by the hotel. Basically $5 vouchers were provided to each person in the morning so it ended up being a more satisfying breakfast than the typical continental breakfast would've been. Overall this hotel was decent all around so I would recommend it since the location is good and the price isn't outrageous (like some of the hotels closer to L.A.)."
