"Great for families!"

December 2012 — "For the past 4 years we have somehow managed to carve out the first weekend in December to attend "Christmas in the Rockies"...this I can tell you if you have a family is so worth it! The kids love it! We have stayed at a few different places throughout the years and even opted to drive home once (disaster!)last year we heard rumors about this cool hotel up on the hill and thought we would check it out! We stayed with my in-laws and got a loft-suite type room. There were two queen sized beds in the loft, and then a full queen sized Murphy bed down stairs. We had a full kitchen, flat screen tv, dvd player, fire place (with free wood) and the comfiest couch I have ever had in a hotel room! The hotel room was awesome and the service was outstanding....but our favorite part.... The great stuff for the kids to do! They have a huge indoor play area that when I first read about, I thought our 7 year old would care less about....but as it turns out it was her favorite part! She wanted to and did spend hours in there climbing and playing. And if that isn't enough....there is a huge pool with waterslides too! Seriously, if you are a family - this is the place to be in Banff! If you are not traveling with a family....take a pass or ask for a room away from the kids or you will be cranky for sure! Giggles, laughter and excited kids can be heard all day and night. We are already planning our next trip back...and we won't be waiting until December 2013! Thanks DF for a great weekend! "

"Best place in town for kids"

July 2012 — "I remembered going to The Douglas Fir when I was a kid and my wife had never been so I took the family out for the weekend and its just as good as I remembered. We deciced to go for the Chalet and they are so big. With 5 of us there is so much room with the 2 beds upstairs, bedroom downstairs, kitchen and huge living room. I loved all the open space outside to run around and play football with the kids. Their favorite thigs were the arcade which I think have the same games as when I was a kid (you can't beat the classics) and the water slide. It feels like we took 100 runs down and worth every second. My wife was so suprised at how friendly the staff was. From the front desk to the cleaning people, they always wanted to chat and were very polite all the time. In my eyes there is no other place in Banff where you can get that service, that big of chalet with all the room and things to do for $200/ night. "

"Fall Getaway"

October 2010 — "Making a reservation on line to the Douglas Fir Resort is very easy. The choices given, including floor plans, should mean no surprises. We picked a package deal which had breakfast ingredients for our two day stay ready in our room when we arrived. Obviously we had picked a unit with a kitchen! Checking in was easy- but as we entered our room, we were quite disappointed. We had requested a non-smoking room, which in itself is usual, but with a companion allergic to smoke, we had expected to have a room that did not reek of the results of a poorly lit fireplace. Once we contacted the office, we were quickly moved to another unit without any problem at all. The chalets are built like duplexes, and give a sense of privacy. The units we saw were clean, but are in need of upgrading. One of the surprise features was that we could use our room key card as a bus pass, and the 'roam buses' went to both ends of the town on a regular basis. Not only was this interesting, but an excellent way to get around without the hassle of looking for parking. What is better than the mountains in fall!"

"Enjoyable Stay!"

December 2008 — "I brought my significant other and my 2 sons, 14 and 16 y/o, for a few days of skiing. I can honestly say we found the resort excellent. From the water slide, to the firewood that was provided, front desk staff and the BBQ in the gazebo (yes, we bbqed steaks) I would easily stay here again. It wasnt Banff Springs hotel but to myself with my family, it was perfect and we enjoyed our time there very much. Thanks Douglas Fir Resort Staff!!"

December 2006 — "I love the chalets at the Douglas Fir. They are a bit dated but with the fire burning, a glass of wine and the beautiful scenery it really doesn't get any better. I have stayed out here for the past two New Years and both times have been great. A cosy get-away for two!"

Management Response:
"Thank you for the wonderful comment. In the last 18 months, we have done several improvements to our very popular A-Frame cabins. These include: new high-efficiency forced air furnace, new central air-conditioning, new on demand hot water system, new fridge and stove in the kitchen, new 7" thick pull-out couch. We have already completed new roof shingles on two of our cabins with two more scheduled for this year."
