October 2011 — "I had to travel to Edmonton for the night for a business meeting. Looking for a hotel located downtown, I had heard about this Matrix hotel on a number of occasions. I decided to book there seeing how it was within walking distance to the place I had to be the next morning. Upon arrival, I found that the hotel parking was limited. However, there was public parking right beside the hotel which I decided to use. When I checked in, I was told that I could use the public parking at no charge, so this was a nice surprise. The check in process was quick and easy. When I went up to my rooms, I noted that they had upgraded me to a suite. This was a nice gesture, and the room was quite impressive. With a kitchen and bar located within the room, along with a separate bedroom, I felt that it was somewhat a shame that I was by myself and not with my family. The reservation also included a breakfast which was quite well stocked with both hot and cold food. Given that breakfast and parking was included, the slightly higher room cost (compared to other hotels I was considering) was definitely worth it. I think I have found myself a new hotel in the downtown Edmonton area!"

January 2011 — "The Matrix Hotel does a lot of things right! The deal we purchased on the Internet gave us free parking and breakfast as well as a room with a king-sized bed on the 14th floor. The muted greys and greens in the room helped create a relaxing ambiance. The bed was firm and comfortable too. An area of concern was that the television was very confusing to operate. There were several steps where there should have been only one. On the positive side, they did have free movie channels. Each room has its own thermostat control which is great, but be aware that if you want to cool the room down a bit for sleeping, it takes a long time for the room to actually change temperature. Previous guests had set the temperature to 24 degrees and it took hours to get it down to 18 degrees. The Matrix has a free wine tasting each evening between 5:30 and 6:30. We really enjoyed that and the appetizers were great too. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic and I appreciated that they used real utensils, not the plastic variety. When you factor in the great breakfast and the wine tasting, and a great room, the Matrix is a very good deal. "

January 2011 — "Wow - this is the second time I've been to the Matrix and it is one of the best boutique hotels I've stayed in!
Many perks are including - free parking; location is near the art district; a complimentary and nightly wine and cheese; and a hot and filling complimentary breakfast. The breakfast ranged from scrambled eggs that you can turn into a mexican burrito with all of the fixings, to yogurt and fresh fruit; cereal; toast; buns and muffins, coffee juice...wonderful. I found the room to be just as great as the last time - sleek decor, great art, comfy bed, clean (except they really need to clean the vent above the shower - it is getting pretty mucky). There is a rain showerhead and a nice deep bathtub, and a great work station with free wireless internet. We couldn't get our wireless to work so I had to "plug-in", but that was fine.
The only criticism I have is with the TV (I know I'm not the only one - the front desk person told me they get more complaints and requests for help to do with the TV system than they get bookings!!!). The poor guy said that he was excited that the TV system is going to be changed in the next few months...So he had to trudge up and get it all set up for me. Nice nice guy - he didn't sigh, roll his eyes...just got it sorted out and suggested strongly I don't do anything except turn the TV on and off and it would save the settings that way :) I'm glad this is going to be changed - but truly, that is all I can note as a problem.
The service was consistently friendly and prompt, and the public areas are beautiful, complete with a huge fireplace and a waterfall! Give it a try - they often have great deals and packages on the internet - we paid a bit over $100 for the whole experience. Oh! And this hotel is quite accessible, right down to flashing fire alarms, audible elevator doors, larger bathrooms....perfect."

July 2008 — "A truly great experience! I was expecting good things knowing that this is a high end boutique hotel, and it did not dissapoint.
Fantastic modern decor from the moment you step into the foyer, and it continues right into the rooms. We stayed in the 'Sterling suite' as we were celebrating an anniversary and were surprised to see how spacious it was. We had a kitchenette that was very handy as I had planned a picnic style dinner.
The art really impressed me as it was all nice, original pieces, as opposed to the overdone prints at most hotels.
Bathroom was great. Good lighting and amenities. The shower was marvelous as it had two heads, upper and lower.
The satellite TV selection was great. Bose alarm clock in the bedroom was a nice surprise.
The bed was plush and inviting, but still had a quality firm mattress. Standard hotel pillows.
Although we’ve heard good things about it, we didn’t have a chance to eat at the Wildflower Grill downstairs, but we did visit the Starbucks which is also right there!
The two things that set this hotel far above the rest were the unexpected touches. First, they offer a nightly wine and cheese tasting. Complimentary. Surprisingly good wine choices too, not top shelf, but good. And an assortment of crackers and cheeses. The second unexpected luxury was the quality of the breakfast. It was classy, with a lot of fresh healthy foods - an awesome hot egg dish, quality yogurt with muslix, and some delish melt-in-your-mouth croissants. Lots more stuff but those were my favs."
