August 2008 — "I am the world’s worst or best, depending on your point of view, at arriving in an area that is busy with tourists and visitors expecting to find accommodation. The great thing for me is there is usually something and this was the case here in the Banff/Lake Louise vicinity in August. After trying a couple of campgrounds that were closer to Banff the Protection Mountain facility that is about 40 kilometers from the town towards Lake Louise had several sites available. We selected one that was flat, soft and reasonably secluded but within in a minute walk of the bathroom and toilets and set up our tent, and then paid the fees, which were very reasonable. All the sites had a picnic table and plenty of room for a couple of tents. There were one or two mosquitoes around but not too many to bother us, and the camp stayed quiet all night. After as good a night sleep as you can get in a tent we packed up and headed out to go hiking."
